Higher degrees by research (HDR)
Innovative and progressive research at the School of Information Systems enables us to offer quality higher degrees by research (HDR), as well as adapt our courses to keep pace with the ICT sector in Australia and overseas.
A HDR program is one in which at least two-thirds of the study program involves research. Although some coursework may be required, it generally does not follow a structure of lectures, tutorials, assessment items and examinations. Instead, the bulk of the work will be in the form of a thesis written under the guidance of a supervisor and other thesis committee members.
We offer research degrees in information systems at both Master and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) levels. They can be studied on a full-time or part-time basis.
When you undertake HDR study with our school, you’ll have flexibility in what your topic of research focus may be; however, it must fit within one of our broad areas of research focus. Recent research degrees have covered a wide variety of topics including:
- information risk management
- system development methodologies
- image cryptography
- ontology-based software engineering
- security management.
