Higher degrees by research (HDR)
High quality and varied research at the School of Economics and Finance enables us to offer excellent higher degrees by research (HDR), as well as advancing our courses to keep them in step with the demands of the current economic and business environment.
A higher degree by research is a program in which at least two-thirds of the study program involves research. Although some coursework may be required, a higher degree by research generally does not follow a structure of lectures, tutorials, assessment items and examinations. Instead, the main portion of the work is conducted as a thesis written under the guidance of a supervisor and other thesis committee members.
We offer research degrees at both Master and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) levels. You can choose to undertake study on a full-time or part-time basis, depending on your preferences and schedule.
You’ll have flexibility in your topic of research focus; however, it must fit within one of the school’s broad areas of research focus. Find out more about our research expertise and focus.
