Dr Sandy Chong
A Harvard Alumnus, Dr Chong is an award-winning educator, advisor and active contributor in academia, industry and community. She is the winner of the State Government’s 2016 Western Australia Multicultural Recognition Awards for Outstanding Individual Achievement, and Outstanding Volunteer Award; 2015 Curtin Alumni Achievement Award for Community Service; and 2015 Singapore Management Consultant of the Year Award.
An accredited advisor by government agency that promotes international trade (IE Singapore), Dr Chong is a certified Senior Practising Management Consultant by the Singapore Business Advisors & Consultants Council (SBACC), and the founding director of Verity Consulting. As an accomplished researcher and leading strategist with 15 years’ international track record, she is known to devise sustainable strategies for client’s pursuit of international growth. She trains and advises executives across private & public sectors on international market strategy, leadership branding and strategic alliances. The biggest impact of her work has been successfully achieving stakeholders buy-in, elevating client’s status and attracting funding for future expansion.
Prior to leading the consultancy practice in Singapore, Dr Chong earned a tenured academic position at Curtin University of Technology, heading undergraduate and postgraduate programs locally and internationally in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Germany, and USA. Her passion in bridging learning experience with students of diverse and multicultural backgrounds has won her teaching award at the University for “Promoting Internationalization of the Curriculum & Cross-cultural Understanding”.
As Chief Investigator of government-funded research projects, Dr Chong has led multidisciplinary and multicultural teams from the Queensland University of Technology, Vienna University of Economics & Business, and University of Muenster in the areas of E-commerce, cross-country contracting, public-private procurement, strategic alliances and business process management. As an active participant in industry-linked research projects, Dr Chong has also served as an Industry Chair of the WA Business Process Management Roundtable for the Community of Practice between 2005 and 2007, won the Best Speaker at the IEEE Conference 2005, and was named the “Top Ten Chinese Youth Leader” by the Dragon Foundation 2008. She has served as invited speaker at international conferences and organisations such as Yahoo, SunMicrosystems, IE Singapore, Singapore Manufacturing Federation, and local chambers of commerce in Australia and Singapore.
A strong advocate for education and economic empowerment, Dr Chong dedicates her time and expertise by mentoring female entrepreneurs and youth start-ups internationally. Currently serving as a mentor for the AUSTRADE’s Women in Global Business (WIGB), BLOOM an innovation incubator at UWA, and Curtin’s NEXT STEP mentoring program, Dr Chong has spoken about international entrepreneurship, leadership and social impact. Her passion in connecting businesses with philanthropic activities has seen her serving on the UN Women IWD Organising Committee for three years and is currently the Vice-President elect of the United Nations Association of Australia (UNAAWA).
Dr Chong is a member of the Marketing Association of Australia (MAA), Australian Computer Society (ACS), and the IGI-Global Journal Review Board. Her work can be found in more than 40 publications on marketing communication, information systems, supply management, global business management and public policy journals.
