Pia Turcinov

As an experienced business and innovation manager, as well as qualified Australian legal practitioner, Pia offers a deep understanding of the processes involved in successful strategic collaborations and embedding innovation processes into organisations. Leveraging a wealth of practical business knowledge gained over 25 years in the private, public and not for profit sectors in Western Australia and New South Wales, Pia is an accomplished commercial advisor, facilitator and innovation broker. She is passionate about sharing her expertise as a consultant, mentor and public speaker on topics relating to innovation, commercialisation, collaboration and capacity building across and within enterprises.

Pia offers has extensive experience in facilitating business, industry and government stakeholder interactions, providing assistance to groups and enterprises to develop globally competitive and innovative business models.  It is a role that requires her to work with clients and stakeholders to help navigate the innovation process, gain a deeper understanding of how entrepreneurship can drive business growth and assist in managing the change processes to achieve these objectives.

Pia graduated from the University of NSW in 1988 with a LLB and a BA in German Studies and commenced her professional career as a lawyer with Allen Allen & Hemsley.  Since those early days, Pia’s own entrepreneurial journey has seen her practice as a Senior Associate in commercial and corporate practices; own and manage various private commercial enterprises; co-found a number of professional consultancy practices; steer a leading Australian Children’s Charity in WA; run the Innovation Centre of WA; and most recently, provide business facilitation and advisory services as part of the exciting Australian Innovation Agenda.

As a mother of three daughters, Pia is also an advocate of supporting and enabling female entrepreneurs and business owners.  In addition to currently delivering advisory and facilitation support services to SMEs under the Federal Government’s Entrepreneurs’ Programme, Pia holds a number of non-executive and advisory positions, including:

  • Non-executive Director of the Australian Energy and Resources Growth Centre part of the $225 million Industry Growth Centres Initiative, focused on working with the oil, gas, coal and uranium sectors to unlock commercial opportunities and drive innovation by building links between businesses and industry organisations and the science and research sector.
  • Co-Chair and Committee Member of Women in Technology WA (WiTWA), a Perth based NFP organisation, which as the champion for diversity and equality for women in technology in Western Australia provides a framework for women in technology to extend their networks. WiTWA encourages diversity and supports women and young people in technology, science and innovation, with a view to raising the status of women in Australian business and in the technology industries.
  • Chair of the Women in Technology WA Techtrails Subcommittee, responsible for the planning and delivery of the Techtrails STEM School incursion program, designed to encourage youth in regional WA to consider careers in technology.
  • Committee Member of Regional Development Australia (RDA) Perth, part of the Regional Development Australia Network; an Australian Federal Government initiative which aims to bring together all levels of government to enhance the growth and development of regional Australia.
