Mr Mathew Ong
Mathew is the current President of the CGSB Alumni Chapter Committee and is working to build on its past successes by raising the profile of CGSB Alumni while fostering a strong network between the school, alumni, industry and the community. The committee members’ efforts were recently recognised when it was awarded the Curtin Alumni Achievement Award for Volunteer Leadership in 2016.
Mathew has a Bachelor of Science in Computing and a Master of Business Administration from Curtin University. He is an active investor in Australian technology companies and promotes the Innovation and Startup ecosystem currently developing in Western Australia.
Mathew recently co-founded a Fintech company looking to offer households a better solution to their living expenses. Through a competitive process, the company was accepted into Curtin Accelerate, a 10 week intensive program that helps entrepreneurs commercialise their ideas.
With a professional career spanning over 22 years in the West Australian Resources sector, Mathew has held various Project Controls roles on Rio Tinto and BHP expansion projects with Engineering and Project Delivery companies Fluor, SKM and Calibre these past 11 years. For the remainder he’s held IS&T management and consulting roles that included deploying and managing complex IS&T infrastructure, designing system architectures, managing multi-million dollar projects, and working as a software engineer.
Mathew enjoys traveling around Australia and to different countries with his family, exploring local cultures, cuisine, art and history. An avid reader, he has a broad range of interest from machine learning and robotics to management theories and financial markets. Mathew and his wife Nap have a two year old daughter which their lives currently revolve around.
